It is a known fact that the concept of Six Sigma originated in the mid-eighties of the last century. It was implemented by Motorola for the analysis of the production process and the elimination of defects. They adopted the then-new philosophy of “zero defects” in their business. By working this way, they have become capable of creating reliable products and meeting the expectations of their customers.
What is Six Sigma?
Six Sigma is a set of management tools and techniques designed to improve business by reducing the likelihood of error. It is a measurement system in which defects are measured in a given process and enables the easy graphical display of results, which indicates a direction to go to improve the situation. So, Six Sigma is a philosophy of continuous improvement and leads to “excellence in everything we do”.
The DMAIC is a method used for proјеcts whose main goal is to improve existing business processes.
The DMADV method is used for projects whose main goal is to form a new product or business process.
“Colors” of The Six Sigma
The Yellow Belt is the phase in which the employee gains an understanding of the various methodologies of DMAIC and participates as a member of the project team.
The Green Belt is a phase in which advanced knowledge of the field of work is required, including an understanding of the tools and methods used to solve problems.
The Black Belt is the phase in which the employee is responsible for the successful implementation of Six Sigma projects and for reporting directly to the top management.
There are also The White Belt, Master Black Belt, and Six Sigma Champion.
