Advantages of agile management

What do you first think of when you hear the term “agile management”?

Agile management is the answer to today’s dynamic market that requires speed, flexibility, adaptability, and harmony.

Agile project management breaks down big projects into smaller ones, ranging from the design phase, through testing, all the way to quality control. This way of working enables faster access to feedback, then continuous adaptation, and the best application of successful quality control practices.

Agile projects require a greater degree of flexibility and cooperation in unpredictable situations.

The essence of agile management lies in cooperation. Good communication is of great importance because it nourishes significant relationships, maintains a constant dialogue between managers and employees, encourages teamwork, responsibility, and points to potential problems.

That is why innovative teams and a way of working are necessary, which means that the team members are explained what the goal is and that they mutually agree and organize how it will happen.

Instead of detailed planning being done at the beginning, the agile methodology is, in fact, open to change over the life of the process and encourages ongoing feedback from end-users.

In the past, stability and long-term planning were synonymous with good strategy. Today, that’s not the case.

Most modern companies adopt an agile approach, and we single out some of its advantages:

  • research made by the IBM’s Smarter Workforce Institute shows that employees are mostly positive about the flexibility and transparency of agile management;

  • in the same study, almost 50% of employees stated that they work more efficiently with an agile approach;

  • 95% of managers do not hesitate to say that they are dissatisfied with the traditional management method, emphasizing how the agile methodology is ” more accurate” than the traditional one.

The research gave a clear picture of how agile management keeps the workforce sufficiently engaged, motivated, and ready for change.

Fundamental differences between traditional and agile management

The differences between traditional and agile performances lie in the origin, structure, methodology, and practice.

Traditional project management is an established methodology in which projects are performed in a sequential cycle. Some typical sequence of actions is:

  • beginning
  • planning
  • execution
  • monitoring
  • closing

The traditional approach places particular emphasis on linear processes, documentation, predetermined planning, and prioritization.

Speed has become a business imperative for everyone. In traditional management, many patterns slow down the pace of business.

Agile management lets us know that it is challenging to predict the future and that things change at high speed, even during the process itself, so it is more important to deal with change than guessing what awaits us in the future.

With an agile methodology, teams have determined hands to achieve the set goals in the way that suits them best. This approach to work among employees creates a more relaxed atmosphere, in which it is certainly much more pleasant to work, and according to research, this way of working brings better results.

The agile approach allows for constant review and improvement, providing the opportunity for the digital transformation project to better respond to the rapidly changing needs of the market.

However, of course, there are examples where agile management does not always have to be the right approach. There are numerous situations in which both agile and traditional methods to management can be used simultaneously because there is nothing wrong with the process that effectively leads to achieving goals, even with such a combination.

But for more complex problems, agile management can provide faster ways to overcome obstacles. Remember that agile methodology is very flexible, and there is no wrong or right way to start with it.
